September 19 is becoming a very unlucky date for Mexico, because this 2022 was the third time that a very powerful earthquake is registered in our country. A scientist calculated the odds of this happening and, as expected, they are extremely low.
According to information from El Universal, UNAM physicist José Luis Mateos was given the task of calculating the probability of 3 different earthquakes occurring in a given place. The result? 1/133,225 or, in other words, a probability of 0.000751%.
On September 19, 2022, an earthquake of 7.7 degrees was registered in Mexico, with an epicenter in Michoacán, but it was felt very powerfully in the CDMX. A similar event occurred in 2017, although at that time the scale was 7.1 Richter.
On September 19, the National Civil Protection Day is celebrated in Mexico, because in 1985 an earthquake happened that caused more than 100,000 deaths, being one of the deadliest natural catastrophes in the history of Mexico, which even changed the way buildings are built. Historically, earthquake drills are held on that day, an activity that apparently has been fruitful, because in this 2022 hardly a death has been registered.
