Nadella has been running the company since 2014.
San Francisco The US software company Microsoft is rebuilding its Windows operating system for use across all categories of devices. “With Windows 365, we have created a product category: the cloud computer,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the product presentation on Tuesday.
The new operating system is aimed at corporate customers and is to be operated completely from the cloud. As a result, the work should also be possible on end devices such as a tablet or smartphone similar to a PC. The structure is similar to the online operating system Chrome OS from Google.
“The boundaries between the PC and the cloud are disappearing,” Nadella announced. The system is intended to adapt to the changing world of work and hybrid working. Microsoft is moving away from individual device categories. Windows should work smoothly everywhere, Nadella promised.
For the new working environment, Microsoft introduced a number of new features. A focus mode is designed to facilitate concentrated work and reduce distractions. These include a stopwatch, help for scheduled breaks and a do notdisturb mode.
There should be a live transcription across the operating system, which not only converts audio files into text, but can also provide videos streamed from the Internet with subtitles. However, it remained unclear at first whether this function will also be available in languages such as German in addition to English.
Video conferencing is to be improved thanks to new camera techniques. Disturbing background noise is to be better filtered out using algorithms in the future. The “Eye Contact” function is designed to create the impression that a person is looking directly into the camera. In addition, the background should be able to be blurred better if desired and a person should also remain in focus when moving through the room.
In addition, Nadella and his team are presenting numerous changes in the field of cybersecurity. The function “Defender Smartscreen” is designed to warn users not to enter their login data in the presence of dubious applications or websites. The “Smart App Control” tool is designed to use artificial intelligence to scan the code of software on the computer for harmful functions and warn users.
For the Windows 365 Business operating system, Microsoft charges between $ 31 and $ 66 per computer per month. The company initially left open when the offer will start.
