Pico Technology has announced at CES the commercial version of its Neo virtual reality device that they hope will be available throughout this year.
Pico Neo CV is the latest version of the Pico Technology mobile virtual reality device that comes to succeed the development version Neo DK. Like the development kit, it is an autonomous device that incorporates the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and the Snapdragon VR SDK. Unlike Neo DK, this one makes a leap in resolution, offering two 1.5K screens at 90Hz, as well as two integrated speakers capable of offering positional sound through the AM3D 3D engine, and a battery system also integrated and safe.
Neo CV has a fastening system very similar to that of PlayStation VR, and is capable of offering absolute positioning, although apparently said tracking will be carried out through an external sensor that can be combined with motion controllers. This tracking kit is compatible with PC.
“Our talented Pico Technology team designed the Pico Neo RESUME with users in mind, so that users can simply put it on and use it without being tied to a computer, console or mobile phone,” said Paul Viglienzone, vice president of business development at Pico Tehcnology. The company hopes to be able to launch the device this year.
