The ‘Telefónica Meeting 2017’ focuses its day on new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data or blockchain to promote digitalization.
The digitization it is only a small step in the new Industrial Revolution in which we are immersed, but it is a necessity in the business world. Organizational processes have been transformed, consumption habits have changed, and customers demand greater experience and innovation in products and services.
Welcome to the era of data, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Cloud Computing and Machine Learning. The development of new technologies has led to the move towards the already known Industry 4.0, an engine for economic change that gives rise to new business projects and business models.
In this scenario, Phone it is emerging as one of the driving forces behind digital transformation. “Digitalization, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence are changing everything, transforming all production models. It is the key to innovate, to give more value to our customers and to make better business decisions, ” he explained José Mª Álvarez-Pallete, president of Telefónica, during the ‘Telephone Meeting 2017’ held in Madrid on 30 November and 1 December.
Traffic growth due to the impact of AI
The day brought together the entire management team of the company in the world, more than 900 executives, before which Álvarez-Pallete took stock of the executive program to 2020, the initiative ‘We Choose Everything’, and posed the company’s next challenges.
Artificial Intelligence has been present throughout the speech. During the meeting, Álvarez-Pallete wanted to highlight the speed with which the technological world advances and that ” digital platforms are going to generate a traffic growth and services unthinkable years ago, especially because of the impact of Artificial Intelligence applied to those platforms. A new revolution that will happen through the smartphone, and that will require flexible and intelligent networks that allow in real time to meet customer demand.”
In this sense, the new Phone platform –the first, the infrastructure and the network, the physical assets; the second, the systems; the third, products, and services; and the fourth, cognitive intelligence – is a company ready to grow and capture the opportunities that will bring the enormous explosion of data traffic, which is expected.
Achievements in the transformation process
This exponential data growthfor its part, it links with another of the keys of Telefónica’s strategy, which is ” to always guarantee its privacy and do it with security and transparency. And, all this, based on principles of responsible and sustainable business, and our company values: open, challenging, reliable”, stressed the president.
Álvarez-Pallete reviewed before the management team the achievements obtained after the campaign launched two years ago under the slogan ‘We choose Everything’. He wanted to highlight the six key elements of it:connectivity, integrated offering, and values and customer experience as value proposition; Big Data and innovation, digitalization and capital allocation, as enablers.
This transformation, on the other hand, must be accelerated by the hand of key technologies such as blockchain, cloud, virtual and augmented reality, mobility, 3D printing and wireless technologyamong others.
Spain is the third country in the OECD in fiber extension, and the company’s strategic plan for 2020 is to connect 370 million customers, reach 2.5 million kilometers of fiber and 600 million people in LTE coverage.
“The new digital wave is going to have a bigger impact than we sensed two years ago. We’ve been pioneers in digitizing the company, but we can’t settle for it. Customer-centric values and digitalization will be the key to our leadership, ” concluded Álvarez-Pallete.
In short, the race for digital transformation is more alive than ever and companies have already realized.
