Oculus is aiming for the first quarter of 2019 to launch its next high-end standalone viewfinder, codenamed Santa Cruz.
The viewfinder is designed to work without the need for a PC, similar to Oculus Go, but with added cameras for head motion tracking (6DOF) and two Oculus Touch style controllers.
Several independent sources have said Oculus has shared a timeline of the first quarter of 2019 with the planned Santa Cruz launch. According to uploadvr, when asked about the release date of Santa Cruz, an Oculus representative commented:”We can’t talk about future plans or announcements, but I can tell you that the OC5 will be really exciting.” Oculus Connect 5 (OC5)is just around the corner, September 26-27. We expect official information then.
Ozwe Games has confirmed that their next game will be exclusive to Santa Cruz and will be presented at GDC 2019 and released in November (expected) next year, so Santa Cruz should arrive by the third quarter of 2019.
