San Diego Qualcomm is considering returning to the server market with a new chip, according to a media report. The goal of the US semiconductor manufacturer is to reduce its dependence on the smartphone market, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the plan. The project is related to Qualcomm’s acquisition of chipmaker Nuvia last year.
In addition, the group is already looking for customers for the new product and Amazon’s cloud department has already agreed to take a look at the offer, the report said. Qualcomm shares rose almost three percent after the announcement. Amazon confirmed to Reuters that the group had agreed to consider the offer. Qualcomm did not want to comment on this, referring to its press release about the Nuvia deal of March 2021.
