Simracing is still one of the great standard bearers of virtual reality, and now Sector3 Studios is jumping on the bandwagon by adding compatibility, in alpha state of course, for Raceroom Experience.
As defined by its developers, this update contains the “first pass” in the implementation of virtual reality, but it is already at a level with which they are comfortable enough for players to try it and send their comments. To activate SteamVR support, simply follow these instructions:
- In our Steam Library, we right-click on RaceRoom and choose “Properties”
- In the “General” section we click on “Set launch options”
- We write “-vr” without quotes in the dialog box
- By default, the game starts with a resolution multiplier of 1.5. If we want we can modify it depending on the performance of our team. For example, to use a value of 2, the previous parameter would be “-vr 2.0”. The higher, the more supersampling we will have and the better the graphic quality of the experience, at the cost of performance.
It is precisely the performance one of the points that the developers want to improve in the coming weeks, so they recommend us to start with the low detail in the game options and go up little by little. In addition, in virtual reality we will not have some graphic options because they are unnecessary or even harmful, such as depth of field, angle of view, motion blur, vsync and graphic resolution.
Any Oculus Rift or HTC Vive user wanting to try it out can download it completely free of charge on Steam, since the base game is Free to Play and gives us access to 5 vehicles and 2 circuits, what is paid separately are the DLCs that contain packs of cars, circuits and official championships.
