Since Elon Musk came to control Twitter, calling the social network a disaster is not enough. Fired employees, destroyed verification system, workers forced to sleep in the office are just some of the things that have happened in a matter of weeks. And now that the little bird’s social network is shaking, everyone wants to take advantage of the opportunity and pull users. Among them Meta.
According to a report by The New York Times, a few weeks ago a group of Meta workers had a virtual meeting to brainstorm ideas on how to create the next Twitter. Obviously, the goal is to take advantage of times of uncertainty, in which people are willing to change.
Instagram has several ideas: to expand a notes feature that is currently being tested on Instagram; to create a pure text Instagram feed; or to manufacture a new social network from scratch based on the technology. Among the proposed names were mentioned RealTime, Real Reels and Instant.
“Twitter is in crisis and Meta needs to get its mojo back”” one Meta employee wrote. “LET’S GO GET THEM.”

Unfortunately, that’s all that’s known at the moment, but it’s definitely the right time to dethrone Twitter. Although Elon Musk assures that the app is at its highest usage numbers in history precisely because of the morbidity of those who want to see it fail, it is also true that similar apps have begun to grow. Alternatives such as Tumblr, Mastodon or Hive, which offer certain similar features, although not the same, have had a meteoric growth in recent weeks. The reality is that there are a lot of people who do not like Elon Musk and do not trust his leadership.
It is not known if Meta is really going to take out its Twitter clone, or at least if it will time. What is a reality is that he needs it and this is the opportune moment.
