The World War II first-person game will incorporate the characters from the SNK classic.
Studio Roqovan and Korea Telecom Corporation (KT) have announced World War Toons: Metal Slug VR, a version of Roqovan’s arcade shooter that will add characters from SNK Corporation’s well-known Metal Slug saga to the equation and will be available for KT locations in the first quarter of 2019. Both companies were showcasing a single player demo at MWC Americas last week, although for December they have in mind to launch a beta with support for up to 4 players. According to them, the game will offer a new experience like its fans have never seen before in an arcade VR game.
“We are delighted to be able to work with the Metal Slug brand to bring it into the World of World War Toons,” says James Chung, CEO of Roqovan. “This game is a love letter for all fans of World War Toons and Metal Slug. We’ve been working hard for months to recreate the essence of a great Metal Slug game within the World War Toons universe. Translating those design philosophies into VR has been an amazing experience.”
This is the first of the games that will be released based on classics from SNK Corporation, an agreement that they unveiled in February of last year, so it is possible that soon we will also see the jump to VR to sagas such as Fatal Fury or The King of Fighters.
