The announcement that nVidia is going to present something they have been working on for 5 years continues to spark rumors and it seems that the possibility of a virtual reality viewer taking advantage of its latest advances such as G-Sync and Tegra X1 is gaining strength.
According to nVidia, the device that they will present on March 3 and on which they have been working for more than 5 years is going to redefine the future of the video game. We already know that these types of statements are usually intended to inflate our hype and it cannot be denied that they often succeed. Everyone assumes that a new version of Shield is going to be presented but… what does a Shield with lenses attached to our head sound like? It could be an autonomous device with one or more Tegra X1 GPUs that, in addition, had the ability to stream from our PC with a GeForce graphics.
We already know that nVidia will talk at the GDC about the specific optimizations for virtual reality that, we hope, will appear soon in its drivers, we will see if only in the Maxwell and later cards or also in some of the previous generations. It seems the perfect excuse to announce an own HMD with which they could pretend to anticipate Oculus. Of course, this GDC is presented as the most interesting of all time, and 2015 is being a year full of announcements and good intentions for virtual reality. Hopefully we will see something materialize in the form of hardware before we take the grapes.
