The Samsung Developer Conference is giving a lot of itself, since along with the possibility of reserving Gear VR in the USA, Samsung has announced Project Beyond, a 360º camera designed for Gear VR. In principle, this is not a final product, but an example of something Samsung is working on to create 3D worlds for Gear VR.
Project Beyond, composed of 16 full HD cameras, is capable of capturing videos and streaming them to Gear VR. It collects no less than 1 gigapixel of data per second in the form of 3D video in 360º and, according to Samsung, sends it to Gear VR with no apparent lag. As we have mentioned before, there are no plans to sell it as is, but it will lead to some commercial product later. However, Samsung will make a large number of videos recorded with Beyond available to Gear VR users. They have captured videos in the San Francisco Bay, and over the next few weeks they will do the same in different places around the world.
