According to FCC documents, the company would be about to release a new version of Odyssey that would improve certain features such as ergonomics.
Samsung he could be about to launch a revised version of your Samsung Odyssey vieweraccording to FCC certification documents detected by RoadToVR. It is possible that this new Samsung HMD Odyssey+ (note the addition of the “+” symbol at the end of the name), which features a new serial number (XE800ZBA) different from the model that is on sale in the united States (XE800ZAA), the device is said in may that it was going to be presented at the end of August in the event IFA, although on that occasion he spoke of a “powerful viewer wireless”, something that the FCC does not seem to reflect.
According to RoadToVR, the specifications that have been found (we have not been able to locate at the time of writing this story), and that might not be the end, do not show any change in terms of the parameters of resolution (1440×1600 per eye) and viewing angle (110°), although the screens are marked as AMOLED+SFS, this being the rank of a term unknown which could refer to its new screen technology without effect screendoor (grid). What we have been able to verify in the document of the certification label is that apparently it changes the ergonomics of the visor, increasing the space available for the nose. In turn, the aforementioned specifications also include the words: “Wider Eye box” and “Anti-fog”, which seem to suggest a greater sweet spot and a reduction in lens fogging.
Comparative image of the differences between the Odyssey+ (left) and the standard Odyssey (right), being appreciable the new design of the hollow of the nose.
Another of the differences they comment on is that in the specifications it appears that supports Windows MR and SteamVR, when in the standard document only said Windows MR, but this could be simply that in the release of Odyssey SteamVR support was not available in its final version.
Although it is only a change in some features such as the SDE and its ergonomics, this new viewer, which could reach the market very soon after having passed the FCC certification, opens the possibility that this is the version that Samsung will finally market in Europe, given that the standard is only available in the US.
It is possible that we will leave doubts before the end of the month, since the IFA event starts on August 31.
