Croteam fans who own a Serious Sam saga game can now try the new unified platform called Serious Sam Fusion that will bring together all the titles of the popular action hero.
Those of you who have a Serious Sam saga game can already take a look at your Steam Library to check if Serious Sam Fusion 2017 beta appears to you. This title will be everything you will need from now on to enjoy the latest version of the adventures of Sam Stone, with support for the latest technologies such as 64-bit, Vulkan, DirectX 11, multithreaded render, new physics and audio engines and cross multiplayer games between users of conventional screen and virtual reality, as well as Windows, Linux and OSX. At the moment, Serious Sam Fusion is compatible with First Encounter and Second Encounter, although little by little it will support the rest of the games in the saga (except The Last Hope, which is an independent title with a mechanic that has nothing to do with the rest).
The game is compatible with Oculus Rift, both with Touch and without Touch (we can even play in VR with keyboard and mouse), and also with HTC Vive under the SteamVR platform, although it is only available on Steam and it does not seem that Croteam has plans to bring it to Oculus Home, since they depend on Valve’s platform infrastructure both for multiplayer support and for the Mod Workshop.
Today, having Fusion installed is equivalent to having downloaded the first two Serious Sam titles, which we can delete from our hard drive completely from Steam. Now, when you launch Serious Sam Fusion and start a new game, we can choose if we want to play the maps of either of the first two meetings, and when the support for Serious Sam BFE (and we assume that also the upcoming Serious Sam 4) also we will have integrated into the new platform, although obviously we have to buy the games if we don’t have it, as it will appear in our Steam Library as DLCs for Serious Sam Fusion. Although it is still in beta, we have been able to verify that it works correctly and has detected that we have the first two Serious Sam encounters, working both on conventional screen and in virtual reality.
Croteam still has to adjust some details, especially regarding the multiplayer balance between screen and VR users, since the latter have a great advantage by being able to use two weapons at the same time and by having eliminated reloading on some weapons. As shown, the Steam forums by a user of VR has complained that have been thrown out of a game accused of cheater to get 4 times more score the second classified, but they are betas and the croats have already shown that they are taken very seriously (never better said) everything about his game star.
In short: Except for The Last Hope, Serious Sam Fusion will replace all the games in the saga, and from it we will be able to play all the campaigns of any Serious Sam title, either alone, in multiplayer, split screen, network, monitor or with HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. If Serious Sam Fusion appears on Steam, we can uninstall any version of First Encounter or Second Encounter (and soon Serious Sam 3), since Fusion is the only thing we will need to enjoy the latest technological advances of the Serious Engine in these action classics.
