For most business owners, managers and employees, it is a hot dream to be able to work more efficiently and thus achieve everything you want to achieve. But for most people it’s easier said than done. Therefore, here we have collected our tips and tricks on how you can streamline your business.
Know your shortcuts
When working in the office, you mostly sit in front of the computer all day. Depending on the position you hold, you spend a lot of time in various programs – it can be either image processing programs, spreadsheets, CRM systems, financial systems or collaboration platforms. Whatever programs you use most in your everyday life, it may be a good idea to set aside time to become a superuser in it. You will be surprised how much time you can save. In this way, you become both more skilled and more efficient at your work. Could it be something for you, you can for example take an Office course and become a superuser in Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint or Teams.
The shortcuts to become more efficient, lie not only on the computer. You should also get to know your own shortcuts – when do you work best? Do you need silence or background noise? Do you work best alone or with others? In the morning, afternoon or evening? The better you know your possibilities and limitations, the better you can put yourself in a situation where you work effectively.
Focus on what you’re good at
As a leader in a company, it is important to be able to use its employees and their skills and competencies optimally. Yet it is not uncommon to see managers who find it difficult to delegate tasks and give responsibility and trust to their employees. And in the end it is you it goes beyond, because you end up with many more work tasks on your table than what was intended. To become better at delegating tasks and using your employees ‘ skills, there are several things you can do.
First of all, you can make a list of your tasks in order of priority – the ones you prioritize lowest, are the ones you should have as little to do with as possible. If you can give full responsibility for these tasks to one or more of your employees, it is optimal. Then you must assess whether the highest priority tasks are some you have the skills to handle. If not, check to see if there are others who have those skills. For example, it may be that it is high priority that you get a new website, but that it is not something you can handle yourself – therefore consult the employees or hire an agency.
Get help
In continuation of the above, there are a lot of leaders who need to get better at seeking outside help. Some avoid it because they think they can do it all themselves, and others avoid it because it is an extra expense they want to save. But in many situations it pays to seek outside help. For example, for bookkeeping, which can be a great time waster if you are not used to working with it. The more time you spend on the important things, like developing your business model and growing the business, the more money will come in the box.
Therefore, it may also be a good idea to hire a piccoline, an assistant or a cleaning lady, depending on what you think you and your business will benefit most. Instead of focusing on the money it costs, focus on the money you can hopefully earn by focusing on the important tasks.
