Wednesday, September 16, the company Summa Telecom has announced some results of its work this year and told about plans for further development of their business.
Recall that in November last year, the operator has developed a business project for the regional broadband access network, and in January of this year began to implement it. Named business project
involved the construction of multiservice networks for Fiber-To-The-Building (FTTB – fiber to the home)* in ten cities. To date, Saint-Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Lipetsk,
In Voronezh and Makhachkala network has already been built, the subsidiaries of the company, created multi-channel system of sales and service support to subscribers. (Connecting clients began in April
of the current year.) In five cities: Tver, Tula, Orel, Krasnodar and Rostov-on-don, work is underway on building networks and creating branches. They need to start their work until the end of the year.
By the way, by this time, the company expects to launch commercial operation of fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) Moscow – Rostov-on-don. The bandwidth of this fiber optic line will be about
2 GB/s.
According to the operator, the total volume of investments into development of regional broadband access networks in the current year will amount to 70 million dollars. The implementation of these plans should lead, according to the calculations of “Sum
Telecom”, attracting some 50 thousand subscribers. At least you were conceived in the beginning of this year. However, perhaps the company exceeded the plan by number of subscribers. And the reason for it
“Figure” – the Petersburg network built by the company “Northern home”. This ISP Summa Telecom has acquired in the current month for 9 million $. Through this acquisition, the subscriber base
increased to 48 thousand subscribers, of which about 40 thousand “Summa Telecom” brought “Figure”.
With regard to the operator’s plans for next year, there is “Summa Telecom” is going to build your network in 10 cities of Russia. Mainly in Siberia and the Urals. Also in 2010, the operator
outlined construction of FOCL Omsk – Ekaterinburg and maybe the Yekaterinburg – Moscow. In addition, next year the company intends to establish on its “highway” Omsk – Gorno-Altaysk DWDM
equipment.
Another possible direction of development of the “Summa Telecom” the company was called mobile WiMAX. At least, the operator is going to take part in the competition for licenses.
Also in 2010, the company plans to more actively act in the corporate market. So, if now the operator offers its corporate customers only access service in the Internet, the following
year to it can be added and other services. In particular, currently, the “Summa Telecom” holds a tender to select suppliers of telecommunications equipment necessary for the organization
the provision of telephone services to corporate customers. In addition, the company is considering providing subscribers combined services, for example, the FMC, together with
operators of cellular communication.
According to company executives, the investment in the establishment of networks in 10 cities and “update” VOLS Omsk – Gorno-Altaisk will be about $40 million.
*It is worth noting that the “Summa Telecom” is “through” license to provide broadband wireless access based on WiMAX technology throughout Russia. However, as noted
the operator, it is the decision of the SCRF on equipment of the company NetNext. The company tried to obtain a decision on the SCR range of equipment from another manufacturer. However, while
to no avail. Therefore, currently the “total Telecom” develops FTTB-network. In addition, the operator notes that in regions with WiMAX there are certain difficulties. We are talking about low building
regional cities, not to raise the base station at high altitude, sufficient for a wide coverage area. And to put in a lot of regions of base stations is not profitable.
