FOVE opens the pre-purchase of FOVE 0, its HMD with eye tracking available from 549 dollars and with a delivery date for January.
FOVE 0 it is the first commercial eye-tracking product from the Japanese company FOVE, which launched a successful Kickstarter campaign last year. The pre-purchase opens with a price of $549, as there is a $50 discount for all those who make it before November 9 at 17:00. Later its price will be 599 dollars. To this price we must add VAT, possible customs expenses and shipping costs that in the case of Spain are 100 dollars.
The viewer will have a single WQHD OLED display of 2560×1440 and a soda from 70Hz, a viewing angle of 100º, and the novel system of eye tracking infrared with a frequency of 120fps to achieve a high accuracy of less than 1 degree. This new feature, so far not available on any commercial device, offers the possibility to perform visual contact, to look and communicate naturally with other characters or users, as well as visually controlled interfaces; natural approach thanks to the emulation of light field rendering, based on real time with the user’s viewing angle to achieve greater immersion; and foveated rendering that improves the performance of applications by representing the areas where the user looks at more quality.
Its weight is 520 grams, which puts it between Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. In addition, it has absolute positioning using an external camera, it is compatible with SteamVR and its minimum requirements are:
- Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 or higher.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or higher.
- Memory: 8GB or more.
- Interface:HDMI 1.4 / USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 x 2.
- Operating system:Windows 8.1 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit.
The company has its SDK available for developers to support FOVE in Unity, Unreal Engine or Cryengine. Shipments will take place in January 2017.
