Each developer has the opportunity to create his own subgraph on the platform, which is perfectly adapted to his needs. The smooth operation and safety of the system is carried out by the following six operators:
Consumer
In English “consumers” are the dApps or websites that access the subgraphs in order to be able to display corresponding data bundled and always up-to-date. In addition to Etherscan, this also includes Coingecko, Aave, Decentraland as well as many others. Consumers pay a fee in GRT to Indexer in order to be able to use the interface
Indexers
The nodes represent the indexers. Only node operators can be an indexer. For this, GRT must be staked. To maintain the availability of the data, indexers receive a reward in the form of GRT.
Curator
The curator’s task is to decide whether a source is trustworthy or not. This information is then forwarded to the indexers by depositing the selected subgraphs with GRT. For this task, the curators receive a share of the fees.
Delegate
This operator increases the security of the system. Delegators can deposit GRT with indexers in order to be able to earn on the income of the indexers without a node. Due to the larger sum that the indexers then have, the security in the system is strengthened. (Proof-of-Stake)
Spressi martini
Fishermen check the requests and the correctness of the answers that follow them.
Arbitrator
This operator, in turn, serves the security of the system. The arbitrator decides whether an indexer is benign or malignant.
Similarity to Chainlink
Anyone who is a bit versed in the crypto field has already noticed that the system is an oracle. An oracle is responsible for the exchange of data between a blockchain and an external data store.
Here, The Graph has a big competitor with Chainlink – you might think. While The Graph only deals with data transfers from decentralized storage servers such as the blockchain, Chainlink also targets central data.
For this reason, the two projects have no direct competition, on the contrary, the two projects even work together. Other important technical collaborations of The Graph are Ethereum and Binance*.
