Despite reports that Apple is working on its own VR/AR team to compete, users will be able to use their Magic Keyboard with the Quest 2.
Like the Logitech K830, the real-world Magic Keyboard will now appear in VR thanks to the v37 update that perfectly maps a digital keyboard over the physical device. This will allow Oculus Quest 2 users to better interact with their Mac computers in VR through the virtual desktop application.
Meta is also expanding its support for keyboards in general, releasing a new keyboard tracking SDK that will allow developers to add support for wireless keyboards to their games and applications.
However, Apple is not the only one who is going to participate in this. Owners of Android smartphones will soon have Link Sharing, a function that will make it much easier to exchange content between the smartphone and the headphones.
If you have the Oculus mobile application installed, pressing the share icon on a link will give you the option to have the content appear in the Quest 2 browser application.
At the moment it is only available on Android, although Meta has said that the function will arrive soon on iOS smartphones.
Tidy menu, tidy mind
The v37 update for the Oculus Quest 2 will also include some changes to the helmet menus.
A new and improved Explore Feed will provide users with a better selection of information and tools. Meta will provide gamers with personalized game and app recommendations, options to connect with friends, and easy access to shared links.
In addition, new customization features will allow players to choose between Tablet mode and Desktop mode for the design of their panels. The Desktop mode is designed for multitasking and adjusts to what users are used to, while the new Tablet option brings a single 2D screen closer that allows users to focus on a single task.
To play with the new options you can modify them in the settings of the experimental characteristics of the Quest 2.
Last but not least, Meta is improving hand tracking tools and gesture controls. If you hold your palms up and put your index and thumb fingers together, you will access a new shortcut menu.
This menu allows you to quickly access the screen capture and recording tools, as well as voice command options, among other actions.
