The call for Data Science Awards 2019 will remain open until July 21. The contest recognizes one more year the great analytical talents of Spain with initiatives that will mark the society of the future.
The fourth edition of the Data Science Awards seeks to discover the best initiatives and projects at the forefront in the fields of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The competition organized by LUCA, Telefónica’s Data Unit, evaluates the evolution of the Big Data sector in the business and educational field.
The 2019 call poses to all participants the challenge of applying analytical solutions in four areas of rigorous actuality related to the sustainability or the climate change: sports, health, fake news detection and the environment.
Challenges of society
The environmental challenge is aimed at countering deforestation in Amazonas; the social challenge it is a way to raise awareness of the danger that fake news means to the health of democracy. The health challenge aims to increase understanding of early detection tools for life-threatening diseases; and sports challenge it raises the possibility of improving the performance of basketball teams from individual effort.
The contest is divided into three categories in order to detect the main trends in data science, and get the best possible applications in the business and in the day-to-day life of our society.
The most innovative initiatives
The “Best entrepreneurship” it will reward the use of new technologies and the generation of business value or public interest. The “Best journalistic data work” it will evaluate those communication initiatives based on data processing and analysis using Big Data tools. Finally, the award “Best data scientist” you will discover the most original talent in the specialties of Data Science, Data Engineering and Data Visualization.

The call for applications will be open for applications until next July 21. The winners of each of the three categories will be announced during the month of November.
The “Best Data Scientist ” award will include, for the first time, a one-week stay at the Connection Science Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA.
