There’s no doubt that we love retro, and a classic like Red Alert 2 reimagined in virtual reality could be a dream come true for more than one. In this video we can see it in operation.
Many of you may be wondering how this is possible. Well, thanks to Unreal Engine 4 and the OpenRA mod, this creation has come to life on SteamVR with HTC Vive motion controllers. In the video we can see that the mechanics of the original experience have been respected, being able to build, command and fight in a completely immersive environment in which we can move at room scale and also teleport. At the moment the video is simply a conceptual proof, but based on what we have seen, we hope that its author, Ádám Horváth, can bring it to fruition in the future. The use of both motion controllers, one with the options palette and the other as a pointer, opens up a wide range of possibilities in this genre so loved by many users.
