The major Turkish crypto exchange BtcTurk has joined the Crypto Patent Alliance (COPA) to provide open access to patents together with prominent companies and to promote the acceptance of crypto technologies.
Abolish the COPA with patents, as they are considered an obstacle to innovation in this sector. The non-profit organization wants to deal with intellectual property collectively, so that everyone has access to it. The members of this organization include prominent crypto companies such as Coinbase, Block and Aquarius, among others.
In addition to crypto companies, companies such as MicroStrategy and Meta have also joined the COPA. The companies have set themselves the goal of always making public patents on crypto and blockchain technology accessible to the public.
According to Özgür Güneri, CEO of BtcTurk, the company has decided to join the COPA in order to improve the crypto ecosystem and donate some money to the non-profit organization to support them in their work. Güneri explained that the non-profit organization plays an important role in protecting technologies in the field of cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin (BTC).
In addition, the CEO of the exchange stated that BtcTurk also wants to participate in other initiatives with COPA. For example, the stock exchange also wants to participate in court proceedings and also remain open to suggestions from the non-profit organization.
Ayça Aktolga Öztürk, Head of BtcTurk’s Legal Department, also commented on the accession, stating that the exchange will support COPA in combating “patent trolls”. These are people who use trademark and patent rights in bad faith and use legal protection as a means of pressure. The head of the Legal department was also enthusiastic about the cooperation with COPA and the support of the entire ecosystem.
In 2020, Block, Inc. the COPA was created to bundle blockchain and crypto patents in a library and to ensure open access to the technologies developed by the members. The alliance has realized that the adoption of cryptocurrencies is still in its infancy and that its success depends on the efforts of the community to develop things based on existing technologies.
