A couple of weeks ago the Kickstarter campaign for Underworld Ascendant, heir to a myth like Ultima Underworld, began, and its creators are already experimenting with virtual and augmented reality, in fact they have it working on Oculus Rift DK2.
With 3 days to go until the campaign ends, which has comfortably exceeded the goal of $600,000, its creators have commented that they are already experimenting with virtual and augmented reality. At no time was the possibility that the game would be compatible with any of these devices named, but it seems that OtherSide Entertainment does not rule out anything today, although they have made it very clear that, in the case of implementing it, they would do it correctly and would not limit themselves to adding the Oculus camera, period. They would have to create a new interface specifically for virtual reality and make sure that the experience was optimal. After a survey, more than 40% of their followers have shown interest in the game working in virtual reality and have already made the first experiments, here you can see one of the creators testing the game on a DK2.
As for augmented reality, they recognize the potential of Magic Leap and HoloLens, and say that they would give it a very different use in the game, since we would use augmented reality glasses for actions such as, for example, opening a lock, as you can see in this image.
In any case, we will have to wait to see if they decide to support one or even both technologies, but we are glad to see that the developers are showing interest in these options and have listened to the community.
