Since the two most popular engines have become free, it’s time to look for other factors to differentiate themselves. Both have released two spectacular videos, although special mention should be made in the case of Unreal 4… but judge for yourselves.
Let’s start with Unity 5, which has shown its new features with a scene in a fantasy world with Nordic roots. At the moment no data has been given on the equipment used to render the video in real time.
Unreal has given details regarding Kite Trailer, which is generated in real time at 1080p and 30 fps using a single graphics card… but not just any one but the new Titan X from nVidia with 12 GB of RAM, which has also been used by Oculus at GDC 2015 to recreate Smaug, the dragon from The Hobbit. There are no words left, it seems that we are already a little closer to the Disney or Dreamworks shorts.

We would say that this first round has been won by Unreal, at least if we judge exclusively the graphic quality, but the battle has only just begun. One thing is clear: virtual reality fans will benefit from this fight, since both engines are openly embracing it.
