From now on, you can stream YouTube content to the virtual screen of the VR cinema app Bigscreen. What features does the update bring?
The VR app Bigscreen wants to transfer the cinema experience into virtual reality. Users can meet in virtual rooms and watch blockbusters, 3D movies or TV content together on the big screen. From now on, the VR app also supports content from the video platform YouTube.
YouTube is coming to the VR screen
Bigscreen now supports all features of Google’s video platform. You can log into your YouTube account as usual, browse through personalized content or browse through your own playlists. According to Bigscreen, the user experience should be the same as you know it from the YouTube interface on other devices.
YouTube Premium subscribers can also log into the payment service in the VR app and use the exclusive services contained therein. The same applies to YouTube TV users. It is also possible to rent movies and series for a fee via the YouTube video library.
Social VR with Bigscreen and YouTube
The YouTube screen is embedded in the various VR environments of Bigscreen. Dynamic lighting of the virtual screen, which is designed to provide an immersive cinema experience, is also supported.
By linking the social video platform YouTube, Bigscreen also wants to underline its own social VR ambitions. You can browse through YouTube content either with friends in private rooms or with foreign streaming enthusiasts in public bigscreen rooms.
Since Bigscreen’s big VR cinema update at the end of last year, up to 15 users can meet at the same time in a virtual room to watch movies.
Further updates for Bigscreen are already planned
The update is now available for free download for Meta Quest, Meta Quest 2, HTC Vive, Valve Index and other VR glasses with SteamVR or Windows Mixed Reality access.
Bigscreen has already announced further improvements. A new Friends system will be introduced in the coming months. In addition, a remote desktop and the support of Bluetooth keyboards and gamepads are planned.
