Little by little, the HTC Vive models have been losing weight until the current version, 15% lighter, even a couple of grams lighter than the Oculus Rift.
Update: Antonio Tallón, head of HTC Vive Spain, has confirmed to us that the sales in Spain of Vive already include weight reduction.
Despite its reputation for being heavy, the manufacturing improvements that HTC he has been making the Vive viewer they have made it 15% lighter, going from 550 grams to 468, on par with the 470 grams of the Oculus Rift. This does not take into consideration the cable, which is now also the lightest 3 in 1. It seems that there are more and more similarities than differences, everything will depend on whether a larger space for the face and glasses is preferred or something more compact.
The Vive Deluxe Audio Strap will add some weight, but it will also distribute it better, making it much more comfortable, as we could tell you in our first impressions with the new HTC fastening system.
The weight scale in desktop viewers would continue to be led by PlayStation VR, but the next one would no longer be Vive, but Rift if we take into account those 2 grams of more. Although ergonomics, as we well know, is influenced not only by the weight but also by the fastening system. Hence PSVR, despite being the heaviest, continues to be the most comfortable.
