Last August we showed you the first images of the Viewbox smartphone viewer, made of neoprene. Today the Kickskarter campaign starts and it has done so quite strongly, having already exceeded a third of the goal.
Viewbox is compatible with smartphones between 4″ and 5.7″, which accommodates practically all models on the market. Its most innovative features compared to the competition is the material from which it is built: neoprene, which makes it easy to assemble and disassemble and we can keep it in a pocket when folded.
Another differentiating factor of Viewbox is Ingot, a control device as simple as an image that is pasted, for example, on a cardboard box, and that will be recognized by applications that have specific support for it through the smartphone camera. Evomade has published a simple Unity demo for developers to integrate into their applications.
Viewbox’s plano convex lenses have a diameter of 3 cm and are 62 cm apart, and according to their creators they offer very little chromatic aberration and look sharp also at the edges, so they should be friendly for interpupillary distances between 60 and 64 cm.
The goal is to raise 80,000 Swedish Kronor (about €8,600) and we can get a Viewbox for about €37. The campaign ends on January 8.
