Hamburg, Frankfurt The British telecommunications group Vodafone wants to conclude a partnership to finance the fiber optic expansion in Germany this summer. The Handelsblatt learned this from industry and financial circles. The Group’s management is apparently trying to catch up with competitors Telefónica (O2) and Deutsche Telekom, which have already set up similar projects.
Fiber optics is considered a future technology in the industry, which allows both very fast Internet connections and the connection of mobile antennas of the latest generation (5G).
According to the information, Vodafone wants to set up a joint venture for the expansion and collect about two billion euros of equity from investors for this purpose. The non-binding bids of the interested parties are due this week, binding in about six weeks, it said. A deal is expected to be announced by the end of August at the latest.
