The creator of VorpX is determined that we can play GTA V on our Oculus Rift, and has just published the first version of the program compatible with the fifth Grand Theft Auto. At the moment it is a preliminary support, but we have verified that it works and promises many possibilities in future versions.
The excellent performance of GTA V on PC, unlike its predecessors, helps to make the experience with VorpX smooth. At the moment, a profile has been added that is compatible with the game in z-buffer mode, and the author himself recommends playing in virtual cinema mode for now, although we have also tested in virtual reality mode and the game responds well to head movement, but the FOV is not adjustable and it is not a good experience at the moment.
We hope that the support for GTA V in VorpX will continue to improve, especially with regard to the 3D geometry mode and the possibility of adjusting the FOV will be implemented. We have been surprised by the performance of the game (tested with a GTX 980), as in the film virtual works very fluid, especially if we disable the room and leave only the image of the game before us, it is an effect similar to playing in front of a projector on a giant screen, although by the moment it transforms into a virtual reality experience as you do with Skyrim or Bioshock. We will keep an eye on the next versions, but we do not want to miss the opportunity to congratulate Rockstar on the performance of the game on PC, which has made a huge leap compared to the previous installment. Those of you who are going to try it out, don’t forget to download the specific NVIDIA and AMD drivers for GTA V.
Updated news: As you can see in this video, the latest version of the Flawless Widescreen program allows you to adjust the FOV and enjoy a view suitable for VR mode.
