Berlin The vulnerability ( CVE-2023-4863) gapes in a graphic format for image compression (WebP), which is used to shorten the loading times. The vulnerability can be exploited via manipulated websites.
Check the update status of the browser
Whether the latest browser version is already available or already installed is checked in Chrome, for example, in the upper right corner of the three-dot menu under “Help / About Google-Chrome” or in Firefox under “Help / About Firefox”. Microsoft updates Edge under Windows centrally, there you have to go to “Check for updates” in the system settings.
But there are also many other applications that use WebP, such as the Firefox-based email client Thunderbird, as well as image viewers and graphics programs. Again, as always and everywhere, you should keep an eye on possible software updates.
