- Several Web3 companies are founding the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3).
- The newly founded DAO wants to focus on uniform standards and the promotion of cross-industry cooperation.
Blockchain-based Metaverse and Web3 platforms have decided to create the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3) to address the interoperability challenges in the industry. The four basic principles of this alliance are: transparency, inclusion, decentralization and democratization.
The organization was founded by Alien Worlds, Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Space, Superworld, The Sandbox (SAND), Upland and Voxels. According to the official announcement, the funds will be used to overcome the interoperability problems mainly through proposals for standards and the promotion of cooperation between the various Web3 stakeholders and other industries.
OMA3 was founded as a decentralized, autonomous organization (DAO) to provide a “transparent and user-centered” governance system. It will focus on specific topics related to the metaverse, including standards for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), protocols, transferable identities, portals between virtual worlds, mapping and indexing.
The members of the alliance want to join the recently announced Metaverse Standards Forum. This is an association of Web3 companies that coordinates the requirements and support for existing standards and develops standards relevant to the Metaverse.
Sebastian Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, has created an example of a digital avatar to illustrate the topics that OMA3 will deal with:
“We want your avatar to be more than just a virtual representation and also carry your reputation, as everyone on-chain can see what NFTs you own, earned, created or bought, the entire transaction history and hopefully also the progress/actions you have contributed to over time.”
The announcement also states that more details on the OMA3 draft will be announced during the Global NFT Summit in London on Friday.
