Researchers from Latin America and Europe come together to develop artificial intelligence to monitor volcanic activity at all times.

Many echoed the news of the Whakaari volcano eruption, located in White Island (New Zealand). A catastrophe that has caused a large number of victims and that many people wonder how no one has been able to predict.

To put an end to this type of threat, researchers from Europe and Latin America work to develop a Artificial Intelligence applied to volcanoes.

Be technologyfrom its arrival to the present, it has revolutionized the daily life of users.

Many homes have voice assistants that make our routine much simpler. An example is Aura, the Artificial Intelligence of Phone that is part of thousands of households all over the world.

This is only part of what this type of technologybut how can an Artificial Intelligence applied to volcanoes work?

A project to listen to volcanoes

The University of Udine (Italy) and Mont Blanc Palace (France) have developed the project VULCAN.ears. This project is based on the creation of a intelligence capable of automatically recognizing signals that can issue a volcan.

Be technology allow analyze large amounts of data in real time and classify each of the seismic signals that can issue the crater. These types of signals are very important, because depending on them the volcano may have one behavior or another and therefore help predict rash risk.

Although they were not the only ones to implement this type of technology. Experts from the University of Colima created a very similar system in which they adapted a voice recognition to one of seismic and volcanic records.

This project was developed in two phases. The premium was to create a data base with all the seismic eventsand the second, in automate the process to record the activity every two minutes. It should be said that they also developed a mechanism for receive notifications in the mobile phone.

Satellites to monitor volcanic activity

Artificial Intelligence applied to volcanoes can be different shapes. For example, it can be used through TV.

Thanks to these tool that are in the orbit of our planet, we can study the topography of the volcanic regions. Several researchers found that the terrain varies when a crater enters rash.

These observations represent a important role in those areas where the risk is greater and can put in danger to the population close to the affected area.

Therefore, the Artificial Intelligence it’s not just what we have in our house. Thanks to it we can create great advances in many areas such as medicine, or in the working world.

How far will we go thanks to these advances?
