Although the company does not promise anything, the WiFi option seems to be the only way to enjoy PC content from the new standalone.

The presentation of Oculus Quest last week it generated different questions, one of them being whether the viewer can connect to the PC through its USB type C connector to enjoy the contents of Rift, something that other mobile viewers and even standalone offer through WiFi with programs such as VRidge. According to John Carmack, CTO of Oculus, that cable option will not be available, although they are investigating the alternative of WiFi.

“We haven’t added any dedicated hardware to act as a PC display (it was discussed a lot), but we have a research project to see what we can do with WiFi streaming to the fullest. No promises…”, says Carmack.

Carmack’s answer came to the question of whether Quest’s USB type-C connector would offer enough bandwidth for some kind of wireless kit like TPCast, with which to connect the viewer to the PC.

Oculus doesn’t promise anything about it even though they’re researching the WiFi option. Therefore, it is very likely that users interested in streaming content from the PC will have to use the same third-party software as with Oculus Go and other mobile viewers.
