Here on IT articles, the theme feature of Windows has previously been briefly described in this article, and today we would like to give our faithful readers a little more in-depth guide on what exactly these themes are for a size and how they can be installed in Windows 7 and 8.

1. What is a theme?

At the launch of the critically acclaimed Windows 7 in 2010, Microsoft also launched the option to have themes in Windows. But what exactly is it that makes a theme not just an image? Unlike background images, themes in Windows are a combination of images, sound, colors and many other things – thus the experience of using your computer can be personalized to a much greater extent to the individual user.

Themes can be installed in virtually all versions of Windows 7, including Ultimate and Home Premium – in fact, only the scraped Starter and Home Basic versions that Microsoft has omitted the feature from. Likewise, of course, it also works in Windows 8 when using the traditional desktop.

2. Download and install

Themes can be downloaded in many different places on the web – for example, our sister site has just reviewed a really nice of its kind with classic sports cars. In addition, one can of course also visit Microsoft’s official page for the purpose.

Windows themes

Since it is a built – in function, you can install a theme simply by double-clicking on the file-after that Windows will automatically do the rest of the work.

3. Setting themes

As mentioned earlier, themes can be both a combination of images, sounds and colors – therefore, of course, there is also the possibility to set on some of these things in Windows, for example, if you have some special favorites. To bring up this menu, right-click on the desktop and select “Personal Settings”.

Personal settings

If you look at the above image, where we have installed the previously mentioned car theme, you can go under “Desktop Background” to see all the images of the theme. Here, for example, it is also possible to set how often to switch between the different background images.

If you even have some good tips or maybe even a favorite theme that everyone simply must see, then feel free to drop a comment! We also recommend these themes: snow Owls and splashes of color.
