The official RV section of the Venice Film Festival awards three short films, including Eliza Mcnitt’s, which was acquired at the beginning of the year in a “seven-figure”operation.
This Saturday took place the awards ceremony of the 75th edition of the Venice Festival, which has since last year with a section dedicated to virtual reality. On this occasion, the Venice VR jury awarded the following awards:
Best VR (immersive story)
Spheres by Eliza Mcnitt
Spheres is a three-part series that was acquired earlier this year in “a seven-figure deal” and has been produced by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel of Protozoa Pictures. It is expected to reach Rift this year and the rest of the platforms later. The first episode is about what it would be like to witness two black holes colliding.
Best VR experience (for interactive content)
Buddy VR by Chuck Chae
Buddy VR is a spin-off of the Operation Peanut movie saga in which we form a relationship with Buddy while enjoying an adventure in Liberty Land. It is an interactive short film that lasts between 10 and 20 minutes.
Best VR story (by linear content)
L’île des Morts by Benjamin Nuel
A 13-minute short film that consists of the RV adaptation of the best-known painting by the Swiss symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin (1883). Directly inspired by his work, Rachmaninov’s symphonic poem accompanies the VR experience.
Application Vrroom, which allows you to watch multimedia content with other people (with cross-platform support), will offer for free (until October 8) a selection of all the short films participating in the 75th edition, which we can consult in the following link.
