The application that allows you to enjoy SteamVR on your mobile devices also supports 3DoF controllers if you have Vive Focus, Daydream, Oculus Go or Gear VR.

In the absence of a wireless virtual reality device for PC (unless we opt for a hardware add-on type TPCast), we always have the option to stream to our mobile device thanks to VRidge, whose version 2.2 is one of the most complete we have seen since the launch, since it incorporates juicy novelties and important performance improvements.

CPU usage improvements

By using the NVENC coding system, the CPU load has been reduced by 30% to 40%, which in turn will make our mobile device generate less heat. In addition to this, other optimizations have been made for Android that will allow the CPU usage to be around 15-20% instead of more than the 50% that was usual to date. In this image you can see the performance difference when turning on and off the new CPU optimizations.

Support for 3DoF controllers

If we have Vive Focus, Daydream, Gear VR or Oculus Go, we can use their motion controllers with 3 degrees of freedom in SteamVR.

Support for reprojection and automatic selection of FPS and FoV

Another important improvement is the support for reprojection, also available in Vive Focus, DayDream, Gear VR and Oculus Go. This improvement greatly mitigates frame-per-second instability. Developers are researching how to support reprojection on other generic mobile devices and could implement it in a future update. What is already available is automatic selection of refresh rate and field of view adjustment based on mobile device capabilities.

Native SDK

After this update, VRidge uses the SDKs of Vive Focus, Oculus Go, Gear VR and Daydream, which guarantees the best possible experience on these devices.

Version 2.2 of VRidge is already available in the Viveport mobile store, and is in the process of approval to reach Oculus Store and Daydream, so in these devices we still have to perform the installation manually (although if we had the previous version the update is done automatically). You can read all the details about version 2.2 in this link.
