Many companies still rely on so-called legacy software: programs and tools that have been used for decades and are firmly integrated into the workflows. Indispensable for business operations, such legacy software often swallows enormous resources of the IT department, which struggles every day to maintain operations. Legacy software thus develops over time into a kind of Trojan time and money eater, which, despite everything, meets modern standards only with great effort.
Legacy software often deeply integrated
Unfortunately, many legacy solutions are deeply integrated into corporate structures, often essential for the workflow and often highly complex and poorly documented, because it has grown organically over a long period of time. Old, cost-intensive licenses, missing interfaces and outdated, non-intuitive interfaces and loss of knowledge (for example due to the retirement of older employees) are depressing cost efficiency.
