NASA will broadcast for the first time, today at 17:11, the launch of a rocket into space in 360º. Which will allow us to be virtually on the launch pad.

The NASA, in collaboration with the United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Orbital ATK, will broadcast the first launch of a rocket into space in 360º. This is a resupply mission of the International Space Station that we will be able to follow live at 17:11, time in Spain, through the NASA YouTube channel. The Cygnus ATK spacecraft will be launched on an unmanned Atlas V rocket with a payload of more than 3400 kg of research materials, supplies and hardware.

The experience that will take place in Cape Canaveral, Florida, can be followed live in 360º from a browser or from a virtual reality viewer with YouTube. The goal is to bring the public closer to the base of the rocket during launch, thereby reducing the typical distance allowed for people, which is usually several kilometers. The details of the broadcast have not been specified, so we do not know if it will be 360º flat or stereoscopic video. NASA is aware of the possibilities offered by streaming live events with these new features, so it is to be hoped that they will continue to offer new experiences.
