The company will put Liz Hamren at the head of a new marketing team in order to boost the mixed reality that is preparing to land in a big way this year.
Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft, has announced through an internal email that has been leaked, the hiring of Elizabeth Hamren, former marketing director of Oculus, to lead a new team and promote Microsoft’s proposal for mixed reality in the market. The announcement about Hamren’s hiring occurred before it became known that Palmer Luckey is leaving Facebook.
The company is preparing the landing of mixed reality in Windows 10 with devices such as HoloLens and the new virtual reality whose first kit prepares its arrival to the developers. The new mixed reality marketing team that Hamren will lead will be separate from the devices team such as Surface and will focus their efforts in combination with the investment they will make in marketing by the end of the year, at which time devices from manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo will arrive.
“We have big and bold goals for mixed reality and the impact it will have within the Windows and devices division to create more personal computing,” Mehdi said. “As we prepare for this upcoming holiday, we are entering a new phase to bring mixed reality to everyone.”
Microsoft has two important events ahead in which they are expected to share more information about their plans, starting in May with the Microsoft Build 2017 conference and followed in June by the E3 that they have brought forward to Sunday this year.
