The Basemark software allows to measure the performance of virtual reality equipment, and the latency introduced by the computer and HMD by measuring with a specific tool.
Basemark he has launched VRScore for PC, a benchmark with support for DirectX 12 and 11 that allows us to measure the capacity of our computer to run virtual reality applications, and the latency of our HMD if we use the VRTrek measurement device. The application evaluates the performance of the equipment with different viewers, using a demo specifically created for this purpose by Crytek. Once we know the results, we can share them and compare them with those of other systems thanks to the Power Board service.
“Evaluating how good a VR system is can only be carried out by including latency since people perceive even the smallest delay between what the image shows and what their brain expects. And if there is any disconnect, most report nausea or worse. We are very excited to finally have a robust tool to measure latency through VRScore and VRTrek. For the creation of VRScore, Basemark has collaborated with key industry players such as AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. The application uses the CRYENGINE engine, developed by Crytek, with a high-quality, game-like workload called Skyharbor. VRScore PC is available now for companies in its Corporate and Corporate Premium versions. End consumers will have to wait for its launch in the second quarter of the year, having the possibility to choose between the free or the professional version.
