Hannover, Seoul The fast 5G data radio is to get a new application in robotics. The South Korean Hyundai Group relies on this to connect its service robots. Hyundai and the mobile phone provider Vodafone want to present a cooperation at the Hannover Messe next week, as the companies announced on Friday.
The carmaker Hyundai also wants to gain a foothold in the business with robots. This includes automated machines that can, for example, bring snacks and drinks to hotels or exhibition halls or clean surfaces.
The idea is that the robots will quickly exchange information via 5G radio. For example, they should divide up areas among themselves or warn each other about incidents such as an overturned mop bucket.
In principle, the machines could also exchange information via WLAN. In addition to the high transmission speeds, the advantages of 5G radio include extremely short response times, thanks to which signals are transmitted practically without delay and remote control of machines is also possible.
