Tom Forsyth, one of the Oculus programmers, has advanced on Twitter that the next Oculus SDK is going to be “very interesting”, what could this phrase mean? Let’s try to analyze it together.

Man, the next SDK update is going to be very interesting. Bracing myself.

– Tom Forsyth (@tom_forsyth) April 16, 2015

There are various theories circulating on Reddit, where a storm of opinions has been unleashed in a matter of minutes. The one that has the most weight is the one that suggests the implementation of layers, which Forsyth himself comments and which, according to the creator of Virtual Desktop, would be of great help for his application, since it would allow it to run in direct mode and therefore launch full-screen games instead of the current full-window mode.

Another possibility is the inclusion of support for the functionalities that nVidia and AMD are implementing in their drivers: nVidia’s Direct VR features and AMD’s LiquidVR SDK. A couple of weeks ago it was speculated that the next nVidia driver would already include the features of Direct VR, but two days ago they released the 350.12 drivers for GTA V and in the documentation there is no mention about it. What we do know is that nVidia has a driver that supports that, for the moment, is available for developers under NDA (non-disclosure agreement), while Crytek has already implemented the support for LiquidVR in their builds internal CryEngine, what makes us think that the implementation in the SDK public Oculus should not be delayed much more.
