A few days ago we commented that Samsung was preparing a 4K screen for the Galaxy Note 5, and now it is Sharp who presents a 4K screen in a 5.5″ size that will begin to be mass-produced in 2016.
It seems very clear that the high-end of smartphones is going to go for 4K next year. Sharp’s 4K IZGO display will have a resolution of 2160×3840 and will have a density of 806 dpi. Although our Japanese is somewhat rusty, we see in the image something that seems to refer to the size and format of the pixels, and we clearly read RGB, so it seems that Sharp opts for an LCD format with RBG matrix.
It is curious that in the PhoneArena article they mention virtual reality, stating that a higher pixel density eliminates the screendoor effect on the viewfinders, which is not entirely correct since this effect is produced by the gaps between the pixels. In any case, it seems that virtual reality is going to continue to benefit from advances in mobile technology for the next few years. Will we see a jump to 8K in 2017?
