According to information from the analysis firm Samba TV (via CBR), the first chapter of House of the Dragon, which premiered on August 21, was tuned in by 2.6 million households in the United States, on pay cable or streaming, during the first 6 hours of availability.
These numbers, although they may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, indicate that that amount of people literally prepared for the premiere and watched it as soon as they could. To give you an idea of this figure; the premiere of Stranger Things 4, which until now held the record for the most popular series of this 2022, was only tuned in by 1.2 million households in the United States.
Although the United States is only a sample of the number of people with pay cable or streaming services in the world, it is significant that House of Dragon has attracted more than twice as many people. Thus, their enviable numbers are not surprising. After all, we are talking about the prequel to Game of Thrones, one of the most watched and highest rated series in history.
