The adaptation to the DK2 of Riftmax Theater will be delayed a little

Mike Arms, the author of the famous 4D cinema and Riftmax Theater show / meeting room, is still working on the adaptation of it for the Oculus Rift DK2, but he is running into some problems that will make it take a little longer than expected. But in the meantime he does not rest on his laurels and continues working on improving the application for the next launch of his Kickstarter campaign.

The initial beta version of Riftmax for DK2 is still in progress, but like other games, it has been delayed a bit due to problems with the new SDK that should be fixed soon. The deferred lighting is not working in the SDK, so even if there was something available with 0.4.0 it would look very bad as far as lighting is concerned. There are other issues, such as the video player causing the app to crash completely (yes, this one is fat) and the entire UI not showing at all.

The good news is that I’m taking advantage of this time to convert it to a completely new interface (using VRGUI, thanks to Boone188 from Oculus for this awesome free plugin) that is perfect for VR. The new avatar moves will make you able to dance around a little more than before using the new absolute positioning (especially with the Hydras), so when the update is finally available there should be a lot of new fun stuff. Meanwhile, the game is being updated internally with tons of improvements including the huge live lobby. The Kickstarter will be coming soon, but it has been delayed a bit while we prepare a great Kickstarter version to play with. Stay tuned and thanks to the community for the support!

The problem with delayed lighting seems to have already been solved, as we have been able to read in a post that Boone188 has published on the OculusVR forums, and several developers have already tested it and say that it works. A very good news that surely also makes Sergio Hidalgo of Dreadhalls happy.

You can download the latest available version of Riftmax from its official Oculus VR forum thread, although today it will not work even with the DK2. Hopefully the rest of the problems with the SDK will be solved soon and we can finally try this great virtual cinema room on our DK2.
