A growing number of American companies that stopped their ads in Facebook Sergei Dragun, Anna Saveleva | 26.06.2020

The company accused the social network that she has done nothing to stop hate speech on their platforms.

Here are some official statements from companies that have joined the campaign #StopHateforProfit (“Stop the hatred for income”).

Verizon Communications:

“We suspend our ads as long as Facebook will not be able to create an acceptable solution, as it has done to Youtube”.

Ben Jerry’s:

“We urge Facebook to take clear and unequivocal measures to clean up the social network from the spread of racism and hatred.”

Dashlane:

“We urge colleagues to join us.”

Eddie Bauer:

“We are committed to significant changes in Facebook and end to hateful rhetoric”.

Patagonia:

“We are removing all ads on Facebook and Instagram until the end of July, pending significant action on the part of the social network”

The North Face:

“We are in business. We left Facebook”.

This is not the first problem Facebook because of the content. The social network has been criticized, since the last presidential campaign.

In this promotion, some companies also refused advertising in Instagram. The argument was unwillingness to continue to deal with unmoderated stream of fake news and racist
publications.

The hashtag started the NAACP (national Association for the advancement of colored people) and the anti-defamation League (a Religious organisation, fighting against intolerance towards Jews).

Of course, the case involves the murder of George Floyd and protests of African Americans. Or rather – there is still involved the position of Donald trump in the social network.

The President said that “…In the case of aggravation of the situation, we take matters into our own hands — if you start pogroms, the shooting starts“. Users regarded it as a threat of violence
however, mark Zuckerberg said that Donald trump is in no danger, and tells about the use of measures allowed by the National guard of the United States. And hence the post will not be removed.

Now, as stated by the Vice-President of Facebook in international business Caroline Everson, the company is in talks with human rights organizations and marketers. She also noted,
that the company “respects the decision of every brand and remains focused on the important work to eliminate hate speech and to provide reliable information before
a vote”.
