Apple continues to work in the shadows when it comes to virtual and augmented reality. That the Cupertino people have not announced or shown anything publicly does not mean that they are idly by.
Earlier this month it was reported that Apple was looking for engineers to work in virtual reality, and now says cnet, citing the analyst Gene Munster, that some industry sources indicate that the company led by Tim Cook is also exploring augmented reality, which “has the potential to become a technology platform as deep as the smarphones”. Be that as it may, Apple can give a huge push to both virtual and augmented reality, and it is logical that if Samsung and HTC have already taken firm steps in this regard to the point that both will have put a commercial device on the market by the end of the year (not counting the Innovators Edition of Gear VR that is already available), Apple should not be left behind in a technology that is destined to revolutionize the world.
