A few days ago, Netflix announced that now sharing your account with someone outside your household will no longer be legal, so you will have to pay extra for that person. Obviously no one is happy about that, but that meant that Blockbuster took the opportunity to have a little laugh about the situation.
As you know, the video rental store that was once the largest in the world is now practically extinct, because there is only one branch left in the whole world. However, it seems that at least there is enough money left to pay a community manager, because his Twitter account is still relatively active. In fact, a few hours ago he mocked Netflix for its drastic policy change:
“A friendly reminder that when you guys used to rent videos from us, we didn’t care who you shared it with… as long as they returned it on time,” the account mentioned. Obviously this is a mockery/joke to the current situation of Netflix. People are very upset about having to pay extra to borrow the account, so it was the perfect time to remember that before you could lend the cassette to whoever you wanted without any problem.
A friendly reminder that when you used to rent videos from us. We didn’t care who you shared it with… As long as you returned it on time. @netflix

Despite the strong criticism that Netflix has received for this change in its business model, the truth is that it is working for it. In the countries where this new method of charging for people outside the home has been active for months, there are thousands of users who are paying instead of unsubscribing.
