For the production of the new Series 3, the German company has made available to its employees digitalizations of their jobs to plan the campaign more efficiently.
Planning teams BMW they have come up with a solution to save personnel and resources, replacing the test workstations, where employees study the procedures for the new campaign, with 3D scans designed for VR, saving the need for physical reconstructions so that engineers and plant personnel structure the next campaign.
“RV has allowed us to install cabin assembly stations quickly and efficiently. The testing facilities that required so much time and resources to be installed are no longer necessary, in addition to favoring the exchange of ideas between specialists in earlier phases, which has been a great added benefit. We have been faster, more flexible and more transparent overall,” says Matthias Schindler, head of Planning and Virtual Implementation for Production at the BMW Group.
The automotive company has been capturing and digitizing its facilities using 3D sensors and high definition cameras, allowing the transfer of test facilities to the virtual world. In this specific case, it is the workstations dedicated to assembling the cabins of the cars, where the different departments have been able to decide the facilities so that the assembly staff has everything necessary.
