The Oculus Quest 2 it is powerful enough to run games completely on the headphones. However, this makes it confusing when a user wants to connect Oculus Quest 2 to a TV and share the game with friends and family. Fortunately, there is a built-in solution for those who want to stream video from headphones to a TV, although it is not immediately obvious how to use it.
How to Stream Oculus Quest 2 to TV
Users can connect Oculus Quest 2 to a TV, but there is a catch. The video from the headphones can only be displayed on a TV via Google Cast, so the TV or a device connected to it will have to support that standard.
To stream from Oculus Quest 2 to a TV or Chromecast device:
Put on your headphones. Press the Oculus button. Select “Share” Choose “Stream” Select the device from the list. Press “Start”
When the mission starts to launch, a small red dot will appear on the user’s periphery. To stop the transmission, repeat the previous steps and select “Stop”.
Headphones can also transmit to a phone or a computer. However, there is an additional step that needs to be performed on both devices to do so:
Phones: Download and launch the Oculus app Computers: go to oculus.com/casting in a Chromium-based web browser (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome).
There are some caveats with casting. Not all devices may work flawlessly, even if they are compatible with Google Cast. In addition, streaming can reduce the battery life of the headphones or cause applications to misbehave.
If you use Oculus Link with a PC, there is no need to stream to a TV. The video will appear on the screen via Steam VR or the Oculus app. Since this is less draining on the battery, this is the best way to show the game on TV when using the headset wirelessly.
