The new beta 0.7 of Cineveo is compatible with DK2 and also implements absolute positioning, which did not work in the previous beta. This paid virtual cinema currently includes 4 thematic rooms in places as varied as a space station or the bottom of the ocean, and after a rather controversial start due to the author’s decisions regarding updates, it seems that he is now on the right track.
Cineveo had a rather hard start since, although it is a quality product, its author intended to charge for each of the different rooms or environments every time there were updates. And until yesterday, the DK1 version was independent of the DK2 version, so if we had bought the first one and updated our Oculus Rift, we had to go through the box again if we wanted the new version. After exchanging a few emails with its creator, it has finally chosen to update the owners of the DK1 version to the new one for free, also guaranteeing all future updates, facing the commercial version of the Rift. And of course, we will also have the new thematic rooms that the author is creating.
With Cineveo we will be able to watch 2D and 3D movies without using our hands, since the playback, pause and file choice controls are performed with our head. As soon as we have a chance to try it, we will tell you more about our impressions, although some members of our community have already tried it and seem satisfied with the program, without forgetting that there are free alternatives such as RiftMax Theater, VR Cinema or Total Cinema 360, although there are still no DK2 versions of them.
